Interesting muscles to massage

Did you know that as a qualified sports masseur I can also massage the muscles you never thought possible!

The diaphragm is a large muscle that separates the abdominal and the thoracic cavities. It is possible to massage this muscle by accessing it from under the ribs. It is commonly used in sports men and women to help expand the thoracic space for increased breathing and can be used for singers, performers, scuba divers and the like. The technique is also used for people that have asthma, cystic fibrosis, lung disease and many other breathing disorders,

The intercostal muscles are situated in-between the ribs connecting one rib to the other. Massage can be used in cases of breathing difficulties but it can also provide relief for flu or a cold where you may have a persistent cough.

I can also massage the inner abdomen. This is not for the faint hearted as it can feel very strange as the muscles are accessed through the belly button. It can be used for many problems and I would always carry out a full health assessment prior to discussing the technique with the client.

I like to finish off a massage session in relaxing the client by performing massage to the face. We all hold a lot of tension in our faces and until the areas are touched, you may not notice how tight muscles have become. I massage under the jaw, the temporal mandibular area on the outside where the jaw opens, (this also can be accessed from inside the mouth) the temples, around the forehead and eyes and around the nose and sinuses. If a client has headaches, clenched jaws and grinds their teeth, massaging the muscles can really assist in relaxing the face.

In fact you can massage nearly all the muscles in the human body!
