Practicing yoga during your pregnancy.

I often get asked about yoga during pregnancy and whether it's a good idea to do so, even if you have not have practiced yoga before? It is a personal choice and I would suggest attending a class that specifically teaches pregnancy yoga and ensure the teacher has knowledge and experience in the practice. I have been doing yoga on and off for around 20 years and I have always found it a very relaxing and positive experience. Doing it when I was pregnant was even better. Performing yoga when you are pregnant is a wonderful way to put time aside for yourself and your baby. Although most gentle types of yoga are appropriate during pregnancy, there are a few things to avoid making your pregnancy yoga safe and enjoyable and the teacher should point these out to you.
Jodie is my yoga teacher. She has a regular class at my gym which I attended during my pregnancy. The class wasn't specifically a pregnancy yoga class but Jodie ensured that what I practiced was safe for me and my baby. I found that it really helped me with my breathing, to relax and to help my body through the aches and pains pregnancy brought. Yoga during pregnancy can also help you through the birth of your baby as it encourages you to stay calm and focused, as well as increasing the strength and flexibility of your hips, pelvis and pelvic floor muscles.
Jodie teaches Pregnancy Yoga both privately and through group sessions. She is also trained in yoga for 2-5year olds so she can even introduce your little ones to yoga! Jodie would be more than happy for you to call her if you do have any questions regarding yoga while you are pregnant. You can find her contact details on her website.
